Common Tern breeds with us

The lichtenfels district group of the landesbund fur vogelschutz in bayern (LBV) presented a great half-yearly balance at the district group’s summer party.
"The first successful breeding of the common tern in franconia in 100 years took place in the district of lichtenfels", gerd glatzer and dieter franz of the hochstadt LBV local group summed up the evening.
After an unsuccessful breeding attempt in 2017, three young birds were flown on a breeding wing a few days ago. This was only possible because some members of the district group around volker woitzik had built a small breeding flob with gravel support and anchored it in a dredging lake in the spring. Thus the brut was independent of the fluctuating water level and could succeed.
The chairwoman of the district group, marion damm, proudly reported that there are now a total of six breeding pairs of female storks in the district. Rare heron species were also sighted, and two white-tailed eagles spent a few days at the quarry ponds between michelau and burgkunstadt. The spring did not go so well for the owls, with only moderate breeding success for the barn owl and the eagle owl.
Christoph hartl from the LBV- regionalgeschaftsstelle oberfranken in bayreuth praised the commitment of the district group members for the preservation of nature and thanked the host roland schramm for the successful evening. Wha
