Fuel price: faint and rage at the gas station

Normally, monika schrattenberger fills up her ford focus with super gasoline. But in view of the exorbitant fuel prices and because her older vehicle model only tolerates super, she fills the tank most recently for only 50 euros "in the hope that the price will be lower the next time". As a commuter, the woman from reckendorf depends on her car and is furious about the negative record prices. This is a problem for everyone who cannot do without gasoline-powered vehicles, such as municipal building yards and bus operators, trucking companies, farmers and cab drivers.

Monika schrattenberger has been driving a car for 29 years and has not yet experienced such fuel prices. The dispatcher who works in bamberg is in a hurry and thinks that such high prices were not necessary. Rohol is certainly not that expensive and the price is due in particular to the vacation season. The commuter, whose speedometer rises by more than 40 kilometers every day because of work, is dependent on her car; her working hours do not allow her to take the train as an alternative. When it comes to filling up, meanwhile, she relies on a small gas station just behind laimbach "because they don't change their prices that often."

Wait until september

The four vehicles of the ebrach construction yard do not have to go to the gas station, they have their own tank with a capacity of several thousand liters, according to chamber manager konrad gotz. It is usually filled with between 1500 and 2000 liters. With an annual consumption of 7000 liters, there is always room for price poker when it comes to the filling period. They are trying to cushion the market fluctuations. On 23. July the tank was filled according to accounting with 1023 liters at 1.43 euros each. Now gotz wants to wait until september, when he speculates on falling prices.

Quite different quantities are used by a dredging and transport company in the western part of the county. One employee talks of over 700,000 liters a year, and every five weeks a delivery of 32,000 liters arrives. By july, the medium-sized company had already spent 100,000 euros more on diesel than in the previous year. And that's despite the fact that the company, as a bulk buyer, buys the liter on average for ten cents less than at the gas station.

Farmers receive a 21-cent allowance, but only after submitting the receipts and then in the following year, explains georg lang from the lisberg agricultural company, which specializes in arable farming. At the moment it is high time on his 300 hectares of fields and fields. With grain harvesting and tillage with two tractors, the company needs 500 liters a day, and the 7500-liter tank currently has to be refilled every 14 days, regardless of the price of diesel at the time. The farmer recalls that the current price level was already reached in 2008 "and then came the banking crisis". The next world economic crisis, he predicts, is sure to come. Otherwise, the high price of energy makes people much poorer. On the subject of grain, he notes that grain prices are comparatively good at present. However, this is put into perspective by the much lower yields caused by the weather. In the end, one should not forget the enormous increase in fertilizer prices, which at 200 euros per hectare are twice as high as diesel prices. "The high price of fuel slows down the economy", lang states dryly.

Despite record prices, bamberger stadtwerke can't just leave its fleet of 64 buses behind. 4000 (in the vacations) to 5000 liters of diesel swallow the buses every day. 100,000 liters is the capacity of the municipal utility's own gas station in georgenstrabe, which means the tanker has to roll up every three to four weeks. In view of the current price level, however, the company is behaving in exactly the same way as many private individuals, explains astrid rosenberg on behalf of the municipal utility: "we monitor the prices and fill up when it is particularly favorable." In the reverse conclusion one stocks oneself at present in each case only with minimum quantities and evenly in shorter time intervals. In view of an annual consumption of 1.2 million liters, this is quite understandable. The relatively young and therefore economical bus fleet, but also the training of drivers in fuel-saving driving, represent permanent measures for economical consumption. Fares, in turn, depend not only on fuel prices, but on a number of factors. They are adjusted once a year.

Rate increase requested

Due to the significantly higher fuel prices since march, the bamberger taxigenossenschaft (51 companies with 66 vehicles) has already applied to the city for a tariff increase. Indispensable for the industry. At present, the taximeter is switched on at 2.90 euros, 1.50 euros is charged per kilometer, and if the vehicle travels less than 14.7 kilometers per hour, the price is calculated on a percentage basis. Vehicle procurement, maintenance, health insurance, the prices are also rising here, according to klaus heger from the board of management. And then there are the fuel prices, where he sees an urgent need for action. A cab covers between 80 and 250 kilometers a day, refueling every four days, each individually. The price of fuel has two negative effects, at the gas station and on sales: the customers who fill up with expensive fuel save money on cab rides – for example, to the kerwa or to the cellar.
